  • Personally tailored advice regarding supplements
  • Personally tailored advice regarding caloric intake, pregnancy weight gain recommendations, and macronutrient breakdown

Meet the Expert

Originally from the West Coast of Canada, Sonia graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology in 2010. After several years of work and travel, she decided to pursue an honors degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Cape Town. Upon qualifying as a dietitian in 2017, Sonia converted her South African dietetics degree and wrote the Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination; she is currently a Registered Dietitian (RD) with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia. Most recently, Sonia has just completed a Master of Medical Sciences Degree (Nutrition) with a focus on the inflammatory potential of the diet and its impact on non-communicable diseases.

Sonia has spent several years seeing private practice patients as well as working in nutrition research with the University of Cape Town. She has managed and consulted on projects related to the dietary intake of South Africa children, the inflammatory potential of the diet, adolescent obesity, and obesity in pregnancy. Although research has been an incredible scientific foundation for her evidence-based practice, Sonia’s true passion lies in sharing the power of nutrition knowledge with those who can benefit from it the most. Currently, this includes private-practice patients looking for nutrition advice during pregnancy, as well as the membership of Cape Town-based organization Neighbourhood Old Age Homes (NOAH).
